Hi everyone,
Thought I'd run a technical question by you. I'm looking for a good-quality boundary (table-top) microphone to use for an oral history workshop. There seems to be a wide price range out there. Does anyone have any experience with these and any recommendations to make? I'd prefer an omni with an xlr connection to use with my marantz 660. The models I've seen with these features appear to run in the £150-200 range. Will I be able to find something cheaper and still get good sound qua…

Someone on an audio list I'm on posted a message about this mic a couple of weeks ago. I'm finally getting around to posting it
here.
How's that for inconspicuous?!
I hope you're all well.

Song Thrush at Bellever.mp3
Don't forget that you can upload mp3s to ning to allow others to download and listen to them. Above is a short recording of a song thrush from the Friday evening. I've done nothing to it other than add fades in and out.
cheers

Remember that really cute little player we discovered on one of the sites Sarah had us look at? I've found out some information about it. It's called PodPress and is actually designed as a WordPress plugin, and you can find more information at http://www.mightyseek.com/podpress/.
However it can also be used as a flash mp3 player on any site by following the tutorial here (http://www.macloo.com/examples/audio_player/). It's not totally straightforward if you're not familiar with using flash (whi…

hello everyone. hope you got home safe and sound, if a little exhausted... Hope you all had as good a time as I did. Sorry that we didn't have more time at the end, and that Catherine and I had to leave so unceremoniously - we made the train though!
To reiterate what I said in response to Jane's question (I think it was Jane), I'm happy to answer any questions (software, hardware, art, life, cows, etc) that arise from the work you started last week. Best first contact is email (richard@aunehead…

Hey all,
Just a quick note to apologise for my lack of perkiness at the very end today, but I had a great time and it was wonderful to meet you all, and spend a weekend in such interesting company. I came away with many questions and conversations I had wanted to have with people but hadn't managed!
I am really looking forward to hearing everything that is produced, and am blown away by just how lusciously moist the recordings we heard this afternoon were- I think I have a long way to go sonical…

There's a brief list of relevant sound books on one of my previous course websites
here. It'd be great if other group members could upload their recommendations too - quite a few books were mentioned this weekend. Same for websites and discussion groups ...
here are some of the ones I visit regularly.

It's Sunday morning now and the sun has come out at last. It's breezy and chilly though, so harder to take recordings. The heavy overcast and mists of the last few days are gone - but they did have the merit of no wind, which made watery recordings easier.
We all sat up late last night listening to everyone's work - not work from the retreat, but previous and current work. David ended the evening - around 1am - playing his sriti box, which sent us all to bed with a deep calm. No dawn chorus for…

it's Saturday afternoon now, and it has stopped raining for a bit, so most people are out collecting sounds. There's been a great sense of concentration as everyone works away on their emerging projects. Despite the fairly horrid weather it seems like everyone is having a great time and everyone is certainly getting on with something! We won't have any auditions until tomorrow when we share work. I wonder if this is a mistake? I might suggest that anyone who wants to share their work in progress…

The fog descended yesterday and hasn't lifted yet. Not only that, but the weathermap this morning showed Devon and Cornwall ALL RED. Now in most circumstances this would mean heat, but in this case it means a sever weather warning with 80% chance of flash flooding. Ah well. It's the "Devon County Show" effect - whenever the Devon County Show is on the weather is terrible. The birds are still singing and the soundscape is interesting because there is no open-ness in the air. Everything feels clos…

Hi All ... A lovely morning spent up around Bellever Tor checking out a few walks. The highlight was hearing my first cuckoos of 2008, and indeed watching a pair being harried by an angry meadow pipit (one of the cuckoo's `hosts' 'round these parts). Weather was OK, a few drops of rai…

Looks as though the weather will be changing over the next couple of days, doesn't sound too bad though, here's the Met Office summary. "Unsettled with showers or longer outbreaks of rain which could be heavy and thundery at times. Some dry and brighter interludes. Much cooler than of late too." Don't know about you, but I quite like thunder!
Anyway... don't forget to pack waterproofs.
all the best
Tony
